A Solution to the Oldest of Geek Problems.

I was catching up on some xkcd the other day and ran across this panel which struck a chord with me, it is something that must have bugged pretty much anyone whether they were inclined toward technology or not.

I sent this to some friends of mine and we had a good laugh about how true that idea is. I began to consider what a solution to a problem like this might look like and about ten minutes into thinking I was sent a link to Sendoid. This is the perfect solution to the problem of medium to large file transfers between friends, relatives and workplaces.

Some of the benefits include end to end 128 bit AES encryption with the bonus that files transferred never actually reside on any of Sendoid’s servers; they are directly sent via peer to peer technology. File size is not an issue when you use their desktop application but using their website has a limit of between six hundred megabytes and one gigabytes which is a limitation of many computers rather than something imposed by Sendoid.

Some of the downsides are that it currently makes use of Adobe’s software suite which means your iPhone & iPad won’t be making use of the software and Linux users might be left grumbling. Don’t write it off, however, the developers are currently taking suggestions and it looks like development is moving along. Check it out.

In the Beginning…

I was once told that there must come a time in every person’s life that the desire to consume must be matched against the desire to produce. Whichever of these two desires you allow to prevail will, in part, determine your character going forward.

For the first two decades of my life I have most definitely been a consumer. From the dependency of infancy through childhood and adolescence I have ingested as much information as possible. Everything that humanity produces as knowledge, writing, art , music, film, television; I have consumed with as much vigor as I could muster.

Reflecting lately, when my consumption is matched against production there is a sore lack. This weblog is an attempt to rectify that lack. I hope to produce some elegant and easy to follow tutorials on various topics I am confident in as well as writing on topics which cause me to think, as always, beginning in a place of doubt.
